The following is a statement by Alex Zablocki, Republican candidate for
Public Advocate, regarding tonight's election for the position of Public
Advocate:

"Tonight, amidst a low turnout, Democratic voters went to the polls and
nominated Bill de Blasio as their candidate for Public Advocate in
November. The primary and runoff elections have dominated the airways, newspaper headlines and mailboxes over the past few weeks. Now we must focus on the general election where all New Yorker's can decide who they want to represent them over the next four years as Public Advocate. I look forward to the next thirty-five days as I will continue to debate Bill de Blasio and the other party candidates, about the future of this office and our city.

New Yorker's want change and we need change. It is time we elect people to office who are not cookie-cutter politicians but one of us. Over the next thirty-five days I will present my plan for this office; I will engage voters in every community and every borough about the issues that matter to us, not the politics. On Tuesday, November 3rd, I believe the choice will be clear: I am the best candidate to independently represent New Yorker's as their Public Advocate. My record as a dedicated public servant for nearly seven years, a small business owner and my commitment and energy to this office sets me apart. With the support of New Yorker's from across the city, we can change government and make history.

Tonight wasn't the end of this election, but just the beginning.

I want to thank Mark Green for his kindness on the campaign trail. Mark is a well respected advocate and former public servant who deserves credit for the years he spent fighting for New York in City Hall. I wish him luck in his future endeavors."
